Party history

The Alliance brought several smaller parties together in December 1991, including NewLabour, the Greens, Mana Motuhake and the Democrats. It became Labour's coalition partner in 1999. Jim Anderton left to form the Progressives in 2002, and the Alliance won no seats in that year's general election.

  1. Alliance formed

    NewLabour, the Greens, Mana Motuhake and the Democratic Party formed the Alliance.

  2. Coalition with Labour

    Labour and the Alliance entered a coalition agreement following the election.

  3. Split and election result

    Jim Anderton formed the Progressives; the Alliance won no parliamentary seats in the 2002 official count.
